Akeso Foundation was founded to help those families with higher order multiples, this includes: triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets, and more. Providing support, knowledge, resources, and a place to connect with other multiple families is just some of what we strive to do here. We realize that being a family of Higher Order Multiples (HOM) is very different then the "traditional" family. The pregnancies are high risk and come with many hurdles. Almost all HOM are born premature which usually means the babies go straight to NICU. Sometimes just for close observation but usually there are other issues like breathing issues, feeding issues, low birth weight, and so on that the babies must overcome before they can leave the NICU. This can be days, weeks, and in some cases even months, which is a strain on the whole family unit. In some cases there are long term health issues that arise as well which families need help coping with. Getting through the first six months without sleep. Deciding on being a working mom/ dad vs a stay at home mom/dad. Chasing after several toddlers at once while they go different directions. Finding ways to recognize and build on their individualities. Sending them to school for the first time and dealing with potential issues such as splitting them up for the first time. Dealing with the uncertainties of preteens with several children all at once. The horror of all the children getting their drivers license all at the same time. Figuring out how to pay for college and then actually sending them. These are just a few things that all parents do, but with multiples it is 3-8 children going through it all at the same time. From Infancy and throughout the rest of their lives, families of multiples face unique challenges. These challenges not only impact the parents but can also effect siblings, grandparents, other extended family, friends, and others. You are not alone though. There are a lot of families just like you out there. Some that have already faced these challenges and some that are just going through them. No matter where you are though, we are here for you. |
